#Glastonbury: Lionel Richie Draws Festival’s Biggest Crowd

LIONEL RICHIE 3Lionel Richie has drawn the biggest crowd of this year’s Glastonbury Festival, with at least 100,000 people estimated to have watched the singer.
The Pyramid Stage field was packed to see the star play hits like Dancing on the Ceiling, Hello and Say You Say Me.
Richie took the event’s traditional Sunday afternoon “legend” slot.
Fans chanted his name and the security guards in front of the stage had even learned a dance that they performed during Dancing on the Ceiling.
After that song, Richie looked disbelievingly at the size of the crowd and repeated: “What the hell is going on?”
The sight was “outrageous”, he said, before walking to one of his entourage and saying: “Did you see that? Unbelievable.”
Organisers suggested the field could have been near its 120,000 capacity.LIONEL RICHIE 2LIONEL RICHIE

Coca-Cola Celebrates 100 Years Of Its Iconic Contour Bottle

The 100th birthday of Coca-Cola’s bottle isn’t just a celebration – this year, the icon has a lot of work to do.

Coca-Cola is making its famous bottle the cornerstone of a global campaign that’s aimed at continuing a global growth trend for brand Coke.

Felix Gomis, Managing Director of Coca-Cola Bottling Ghana announced that the company will launch a special birthday price for the 300mi bottle - “This year, this beautiful bottle turns 100 years young,”

The bottle – which was patented in 1915 – stands as one of the most famous packages ever invented. But Coca-Cola’s anniversary celebration is aimed at being far more than an exercise in nostalgia.
Felix said the company intends to use the bottle to increase trial of brand Coke, to drive sales and to build deeper connections with consumers. The plan has four major elements.

The famous contour shape of the original bottle is still inspiring new designs. In 2005, Coca-Cola introduced an aluminum version.

PDP Urges Nigerians To Pray For Buhari

The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has called on Nigerians to please pray for the president saying it has become necessary given the fact that the administration is finding it difficult to locate its bearing not to think of taking off and facing the challenges of governance. PDP made the statement today through its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh. Find it after the cut.

“We urge Nigerians to join hands in prayers and offer useful suggestions to President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC because with what we have seen in the last 30 days, the present administration is finding it very difficult to get its bearings right while showing no inclination towards implementing its numerous campaign promises for which they were voted into office at the center.

“We are deeply worried that the President who promised to unveil his cabinet two weeks after his inauguration, has not been able to decide on key appointments such as ministers, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), a Chief of Staff and advisers in key sectors of the economy.

“This is more so as the delay has brought government business in ministries, departments and agencies to a dangerous standstill with coordination of important policies vested on ministers and the SGF now in tatters while the system drifts. This situation also creates loopholes through which overzealous persons around that President can connive with unscrupulous elements in the bureaucracy to syphon public resources in addition to possibly misleading the President to violate due process by spending beyond and outside his statutory limits.

“The situation is taking its toll on the economy sector, which has in the 30 days witnessed unprecedented decline with a terrifying crippling of foreign and domestic investments including activities in the money and capital market sectors. Under President Buhari, the stock market has lost over N238 billion while the All-Share Index fell by 849.87 basis points as at June 19.

“In security, apart from the directive to relocate the counter terrorism command center to Borno state and seeking assistance from foreigners, no other concrete step has been taken in the fight against insurgency which the President in his April 22, 2015 CNN interview promised to end within his two months in office.

“Instead, the anti-terrorism effort has completely lost steam in the last 30 days, with insurgents, who had already been pushed to the verge of surrender in the Sambisa forest by the Goodluck Jonathan administration, now surging back and spreading into the country.

“In this regard, we urge the President to confront insurgency and issues of national security with all the vigour they deserve while calling for restrain from actions capable of destroying the fabrics of security intelligence. We also urge for adequate respect for all organs of internal security such as the Directorate of State Security (DSS), which is answerable to the Nigerian state and as such should not be publicly ridiculed by an aide of the President.

“In the same vein, we are disturbed by the ominous signals emanating from the atrocious attempt by the APC to undermine and appropriate the federal legislature resulting in the disruption of lawful proceedings and forced closure of the National Assembly, the symbol of our collective national identity as a democratic state. In this direction, we urge the Presidency and the APC to imbibe democratic tenets and respect the independence of that arm of government.

“Finally, while we remind the President and the APC that their campaign promises are bonds which must be fulfilled, we urge him to use the next ten days to set up his government by naming his ministers, the SGF and advisers in critical sectors as Nigerians did not vote for a sole administrator but for a democratic government”.

Signed:

Chief Olisa Metuh

The powerful love story behind the legalization of gay marriage in the USA

Jim and Late John
It's no news that same sex marriage has been legalized in all 50 states in the USA..However, the new ruling sprung up from a love story between a gay couple ..As published on Daily Mail
In 2013, Jim Obergefell and John Arthur were watching TV news about the Supreme Court striking down part of the federal anti-gay marriage law. Obergefell leaned over, kissed the man he had loved for more than two decades, and said, 'Let's get married.'They knew they didn't have much time. Arthur was in the final stages of Lou Gehrig's disease.

Ohio voters had banned same-sex marriage. So within weeks, a medically equipped plane carried them to Maryland, where Arthur's aunt waited to officiate. Arthur lay on a gurney as the couple exchanged their vows inside the plane, on the tarmac.
Less than four months later, Arthur died at age 48. Obergefell was listed on the death certificate as his surviving spouse; the couple had won a court order before Arthur's death to make it so.That victory was overturned by the federal appeals court in Cincinnati, which upheld the same-sex marriage bans in Kentucky, Michigan and Tennessee as well.
On the phone with president Obama
Obergefell sued Ohio, which banned gay marriage, after the state refused to acknowledge his marriage to Arthur on Arthur's death certificate.

Obergefell also has run into problems with survivor benefits and he worries about being excluded, after his own death, from a family cemetery plot that Arthur's grandparents set aside for married spouses and direct descendants.None of it was a fight Obergefell and Arthur were looking for.
Surrounded by a sea of supporters on the sidewalk outside the white marble facade of the U.S. Supreme Court on Friday, James Obergefell remembered a man who was not able to share his moment of triumph.
'I know in my heart John is here with me today,''No one could ever accuse us of being activists,' . 'We just lived our lives. We were just John and Jim.' Obergefell told hundreds of gay rights supporters after the high court declared same-sex marriage legal in all 50 states.
After the ruling, Obergefell received a congratulatory call from President

Tiwa Savage shares her pregnancy experience

The soon to be mum, just shared her experience of being pregnant on her page.
The very last part of pregnancy can be very emotional ... A part of you just wants the baby out because of the physical strain it has over your whole body but a part of you will miss those precious private moments that only you and your baby share...moments when your baby kicks or moves and only both of you experience it, when you feel hiccups or when you know when baby is sleeping or awake...this is the most spiritual, emotional, physical journey I have ever been through and I will miss getting away with so much lol especially with hubby, like him getting me food in the middle of the night, helping me put my shoe on, comforting me while I'm crying over silly things like its raining outside or because I feel unattractive. Sorry @teebillz323 soon be over I am so blessed. God has been faithful to me..""

Media gives too much attention to politics – FRCN DG

The Nigerian media “gives too much premium to politics and ignores key areas with direct bearing on the lives of the common man,’’ a media expert, Alhaji Ladan Salihu, said.

Salihu, who is the Director-General of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos on Sunday, that “the media hardly bother about the economy and agriculture.

“The daily life of people in the lower rungs of the society should be of utmost concern to reporters and editors.

“The small farmer, the battery charger, the shoe shiner and commercial motorcyclists actually run the economy, but we do not have time for them.’’

He also observed that media headlines had always been on basic disagreements among politicians and even on whether soldiers or state security personnel should protect the President.

He said “I do not see how the issue of who protects the President concerns the onion seller or other petty traders, the vulnerable members of the society the media should be protecting and projecting.

“In the rural areas, there is shortage of fertiliser; farmers still use obsolete implements and outdated seeds, but those issues hardly attract coverage.

“I understand the obsession for stories on the big leaders, but our nation will not progress and prosper if journalists ignore real, touching issues that are crucial to moving it forward.’’

The media expert then advised that politics and politicians be de-emphasised after elections and attention paid to what those elected must do to better the lot of the voter and common man.

According to him, it is the duty of the media to mobilise Nigerians to support efforts toward people-oriented policies that improve economy, education and the farms.

He stressed that promoting divisive political issues was counter-productive.

He reminded journalists of their professional responsibility to unite all segments of the people to enable Nigerians forge a common ground to achieve noble goals.

He also advised his colleagues to focus on issues that border on transparency in governance, selfless service and accountability, and stressed the need for the media to remain vanguards of good governance.

Salisu also spoke on what he described as “diminishing quality of editorial content’’, and blamed that on media ownership and the negative effects of “who pays the piper dictates the tune’’ syndrome.

He said “the political class has particularly contributed to lowering professional integrity as they engage journalists to do their bidding, using fair or foul means, especially when they want to settle scores with rivals.

“Sometime, you see screaming headlines or reports quoting flammable statements with little regard to their effects. Clearly, such attitude is not good for national cohesion and growth,’’ he said.

He also criticised the quality of current reporters, and described most of them as “very lazy.

“They do not read, do not go to archive reports, so all we see is beautiful prose but no substance.’’
Salihu then called for more training for reporters and also advised employers to pay attention to their welfare so as to improve editorial quality and ensure the right impetus for true professionalism.

I hate poverty, seeing me in a private jet shouldn’t be a big deal – Okorocha

Rochas Okorocha4Rochas Okorocha, the Governor of Imo State, has affirmed that there is no big deal for a government official to fly private jet.
Speaking with SaharaTV on Saturday, Okocorcha said he hated poverty and injustice, adding that anyone criticizing private jet owner was poor.
He also addressed issues of political factions in the National Assembly (NASS), the presidential and gubernatorial elections in the South-East.
Speaking about the current economic state of Nigeria, and whether Governors across the country were responsible, Okorocha blamed former President Jonathan for leaving a “virtually empty” treasury for Buhari’s administration.
Okorocha also pointed out that the past government managed Federal funds poorly.
Governor Okorocha said “if Buhari used the word ‘near empty treasury,’ I think he is being kind with the word. I think what we have is a complete lack of money in the country”.
Okorocha also addressed speculations that Governors of Nigeria embezzled a lot of the funds that were left from the past administration.
“I’m sure that you are not aware that Federal government takes 54 percent of (the budget) and State government takes 24 percent of that money. How much comes to State government?”
On why he’s been seen travelling around with his private jet even though there were rumors that he sold it, Okorocha responded by saying “that should not affect my private life. I hate poverty, I hate injustice. So seeing me in a private jet shouldn’t be a big deal.”
Explaining why the APC did woefully in the South-East region during the Presidential elections, governor Okorocha said, “What we saw in the South-East was not an election, it was impunity. People say APC is not in the South-East, and that is not true. APC is strong in the South East. APC is strong.
“We were literally at war with the military and the police and they were able to stop them from writing results. They could not rig the 7.3 million. If they had rigged the 7.3 million in the election, Buhari will not have been President.”
Governor Okorocha also took a soft bite on President Buhari over his ability to mediate in the war between APC politicians in the NASS.
“If you watch President Buhari, he is not really bringing himself or imposing anything. His neutrality is the cause of what you see today. The President has said that the National Assembly should take whoever they want as leaders, and at a particular point, the Party felt that the principles of zoning and equity should now begin here (at the National Assembly) so that everyone feels part of the nation,” Okorocha said.

WTF! A Nigerian Prisoner’s Daily Feeding Allowance Is N3.50k?!!!

PRISONERSIt has been revealed that a Nigerian prisoner daily feeding allowance is N3:50k as approved by the government. In fact, it was previously N2.10k before it was now increased by the new Comptroller-General of prisons.
There are about 56,000 inmates scattered in Nigerian prisons. A lot of prisoners would have been dying on a daily occurrence if not for the philanthropic donations by religious and charity organisations, which has helped improve the welfare of the inmates.

Charly Boy canvasses support for Majek Fashek in very touching article [Must-Read]

Charly Boy who revealed that Majek Fashek produced the evergreen hit "Send Down the Rain" in his studio years back in Oguta has written a long piece canvassing soliciting public help for the musician who is battling addiction. Majek Fashek was recently reported to be begging under a Lagos bridge. His close friends need to announce an intervention fundraiser for him ASAP. We should not wait till he dies before we start showing him love. Below is Charly Boy's write-up...

The worst thing we can do is stand and watch when we see someone struggling in agony, especially when their pain is self inflicted.
Many of us remember Majek Fashek.
A multi talented artist of international repute whose hit rendition "Send Down The Rain" still does exactly that anytime it is played: sending the shivers down our spines. It used to be my favorite song from his album and till today, I can sing his lyrics many years after.
He brewed that song right in my studio in Oguta, in the seven months he spent with me there as an in-house producer.
It is no longer news that the rain maker is a sorry shadow of himself plagued by issues larger than his self discipline.
I remember this very handsome man with a good heart and it's no surprise that we had worked together a long time ago at the start of his beautiful but truncated music career. He was so promising, so full of dreams that it breaks my heart to see him so degenerated and entirely disconnected.
Looking at him now, I say to myself, it could have been me or any of us.
It has been a very bumpy ride to my present location and the success attained so far. Everyone knows by now that I had a very turbulent teenage life; the spirit of adventurism, curiosity and trying everything nearly led me to self destruct and to very dark places.
I experimented with drugs quite early, but seeing what it did to my relatives, friends and the people I had loved from afar, I knew it wasn't for me. It was only by His grace that I freed myself from the calamity waiting to happen.
Yes, my guys, I have been there, done that, seen that and I have finally decided to pursue a cleaner life style. I have my strong Christian background to be thankful to, my new found Buddhism to appreciate for the discipline I have learnt over the years. While you may give me a standing ovation for walking through that long dark tunnel and coming out unscathed, I thank God for His mercies, and pat myself on the back for the willpower to fight all the negatives I was once involved with.
Some of us are not so lucky to imbibe self discipline for things that are destructive to us, but then, that doesn't necessarily make those of us better human beings for being able to!
It is therapeutic for me to share a little bit of myself with you, not just as Charlyboy, but as a friend, a big brother, a mentor to many and also as someone who remains passionately committed to sharing with people my own life lessons with the intent of re-activating in them the power of tenacity, focus, consistency and above all, a belief in self.
Yesooooo I experimented/struggled with substance abuse myself, and I'm proud and happy to say that I have remained clean for the past 35 years. Now if I can do it, many of you out there can!
Many may look at me and in disbelief, argue that there is no way anyone in my profession can possess such creative dexterity without being high on some kinda substance.
Shame on them!
I never drank alcohol, I no longer smoke cigarettes, and I'm a gym rat and a health freak.
Because I know better.
What really bothers me about addiction and mental illness in this neck of the woods, is the ugly stigmatization that comes with it. People believe you are either under some form of spiritual or demonic attack or that you lack the discipline to put your self in check. Most of us never see it as a form of medical imbalance that requires treatment by a professional; just like one would treat malaria, ulcer, cancer, and even toothache.
Addiction is no different.
I know it can be a huge heartache watching someone you love struggle with an addiction or have a mental illness but the good news it that it is curable. When we show more love as parents, as friends, associates, spouses, brothers or sisters, we help the people going through this struggle feel good about themselves.
One of my favorite quotes is that People will easily forget what you say to them, or what you do for them, but they will never forget how you made them feel.
Majek Fashek is our own, let's see how we can heal our rain maker who needs all the love and understanding he can get right now. I know quite a few well meaning Nigerians have contributed to his rehabilitation, but I still encourage the few who are determined to see the healing of this great musician become reality.
God will give us the strength and guidance.
It is well.
It is our collective effort to help rehabilitate him as a social responsibility of fighting this hard drug menace that is wasting so many of our youths. I know a lot of you might ask what if he doesn't want help? Then I ask what if he does but doesn't know how to? If Mohammed won't go to the mountain, shouldn't the mountain go to Mohammed?
And on that note, my parting word to anyone out there struggling with an addiction of any kind, just know that you can be the best you want to be.
You can be as weird, as different, as creatively crazy as you want to be still, by staying clean, responsible and very focused.
Just say no to polluting your body and yes to clean living. When saying No is no longer an option, help is available and you don't have to do it on your own.
